Pyramids of Giza, Cairo, Egypt – 7 Wonders of the World & UNESCO Site

Casey and Shankar riding a camel in the deserts of Cairo, Egypt, with the Great Pyramids of Giza as a backdrop. Does she fall off??? Does she take up my dare and kiss the camel?!!

We spent a few days in Cairo. This  trip was the first where we booked a private tour company a week before we got to Cairo.  The tour guide picked us up in Alexandria then drove to Cairo.  The traffic once you hit Cairo is bad! (wiki) Our driver was pulled over and forced to bribe the police in order for us to stay on course.  It was in the city of Cairo where we feasted our eyes on the only remaining Seven Wonders of the Ancient  World (wiki).  We couldn’t believe our eyes as we got a closer and closer glimpse of the Great Pyramids of Giza (wiki). We couldn’t wait to get there!  But, we had a few stops to make before we made it to the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx and the camel ride.

We stopped to take in the view of the River Nile, where Cleopatra once sailed (wiki). As Casey stood there soaking in all the amazing views she couldn’t help but imagine what it would have been like living in the times of the Great Pharaoh.  Of course, as a woman, I am sure she envisioned herself as Cleopatra 🙂

Finally! The Great Pyramids of Giza!!! What a view!  Nothing can truly describe the feeling we got as we stayed on our camels in front of the Pyramids and the Sphinx. We moved slowly so we could inhale all that we could and never forget a vision such as this.  ‘Tis truly a dream come true to stand in awe of this monument to the Gods. See it now before tourism, erosion and time takes a further toll.
