The Italian Riviera, Cinque Terre, Italy – UNESCO Site

One of the most beautiful summer retreats in Italy. Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sits on the Italian Rivera, aka “The Five Lands” which host five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.

While we were living in Italy, we visited many Italian cities, but the most beautiful was Cinque Terre, the “Five Lands”. We overnighted in a hotel that oversees the five beaches. From the balcony you can see the beautiful panoramic view of the islands.  The hotel had an Anthony-sized house.  Anthony enjoyed playing in the house that sits on the hill of Cinque Terre.  Just beautiful!  We rented a car and toured the five villages.  The hills are so steep, you have to be careful of your car (manual drive, of course) as it can roll backwards.  The corners are dangerous, but most of the villagers know not to race on the roads, so everyone drives carefully.

It’s so peaceful, tranquil, serene and stress-free.  Anthony and Michele had so much fun. We walked in caves, we picked our favorite seafood to be cooked right in front of us, we combed the beaches looking for seashells, we watched the sun set over Cinque Terre, and we drank vino, but most of all we spent quality time with each other.  A beautiful trip never to be forgotten.
