Smithsonian Museum, DC

We visited the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. on Independence Day, figuring what better way to be patriotic than to spend it in our nation’s capital. We visited the usual sites – Washington Memorial, the White House, Lincoln Monument and then the Museum. The Smithsonian is excellent. The displays of past American eras, buffalos, the First Ladies display with their inaugural gowns, were all excellent.

Our nation has had a checkered past. Remembering its history and ensuring we never repeat the same mistakes is possibly the best legacy we can pass down to our children.

We were particularly awed by the gigantic Star Spangled Banner….. It was larger than anything We ever imagined it to be! Reading about how pieces of it were cut out over the years for various reasons was interesting.
